Listen to the Way
Two

"Listen to the Way"

Produced by Kristin von Bernthal, "Listen to the Way" is a truly enjoyable new collection with so
me hilarious moments, some beautiful moments, and some hilarious and beautiful moments. Barb's songwriting and vocal stylings evolved throughout the production of this record taking on a more "pop-y" form. The songs will take you to different times and places in other people's lives, an overwhelming reminder of how art imitates life-perhaps your life. Thank you for Listening to the way...

Lyrics

Listen To The Way
Just a little girl singing a song on the radio
Not more than 10 years old
Just listening to the beat and
Snapping her fingertips
Wondering what a catchy song

Chorus
Listen to the way I write my life
Listen to the way I sing alone
Do you know what I fear
Could be something here

When i was just shy of 21
I picked up the guitar and I learned to strum
Seemed like forever I didn't put it down
Really trying to find my niche find my sound

29 now shook my soul
Where was this taking me did I want to go
Forgetting about the reasons that got me here
So hard to remember and face the fear

Just a little girl singing a song on the radio
Not more than 10 years old

Millie & Joe
Millie & Joe had lived in that
Bungalow for over 60 years
The avocado appliances
Now site on the curb

They met at the neighborhood
Corner bar where Joe was a cook
He remembered she loved
Her martinis shaken not stirred

Chorus
Millie & Joe lived a simple life
No need for fancy toys
Sitting on their front porch
Watching all the girls and boys

They were married
At the church across the street
Had four kids named
Bobbie, Joe, Susie and Pete

The kids had all moved away
Came home in early may

The house sold quickly
To an engineer and his wife
The memories held deep within
Those walls would surely touch their lives

Rootbeer Float
Little girls dream about a prince a horse
They wind up loving a jackass of course
We make excuses saying this ones the one
When in actuality the guy is no fun
He whines and hisses he’s got to go to work
Then comes home bitching his boss is a jerk

Chorus
Don't worry she says just leave him a note saying
Goodbye I went out for a Rootbeer Float
Rootbeer float

I cook I clean and I watch Rickie Lake
Which makes me feel worse this guys a mistake
I pack my bags and sell some of his clothes
Dent his pick up truck with a big rubber hose

Over feed his fish and take the dog
Slip his checkbook under a big muddy log

Up North
There’s a place I know
Doesn’t take long to get there
In this great lake state of mine
Four hours north of the city
Where you leave all your worries behind

Chorus
Up north heals your mind
Somehow gives you a sign
Takes you far away
From the troubles of yesterday

It’s just past the 45th parallel
A place my brothers and sister know well
The northern lights of the summertime
And sailing winds on the lake

Winter’s first snow doesn’t melt until april
You wake one morning the bay is frozen white
Even at its coldest it’s got beauty
This great lake state fits me like a glove

Wake Up
Curly brown hair and bright blue eyes
She was an angel in disguise
Like other kids she’d run and play
Skipping rocks and jumping rope all day

How was she to understand what gods plans would hold
Was this all some bad bad dream or some sick cruel joke

Chorus
Wake up, wake up, wake up
You’re having another bad dream

Now she has a girl of her own
With momma’s eyes and daddy’s nose
Explaining the changes would be without words
Momma in a hat and too weak to roam

How was she to understand what gods plans would hold
Was this all some bad bad dream or some sick cruel joke

5 years past only memories remain
Of her fighting time when the world had changed
Her hair long and red as fire
Her strength back she was a survivor

She took his challenge with a dignity
And rolled up her sleeves
Her eyes wide open and her smile bright and sweet

She Is Not Alone
Why do the things she loves
Not feel like they did before
She packs her bags and closes the door
Keeping in mind that this may not
Be the way that she should go
Starts her car and gets on the road

Chorus
She in not alone
There is someone waiting
Can she hold on strong
Keep her heart from fading

Her strength comes from within
Her muscles are strong and trim
She is tired but she forges on
Her blue eyes sparkle beneath the sun
She rides faster ‘til she done
Sees the light and the finish line

She is not alone
There is someone waiting

Turning the corner by night by day
The pain slowly slips away
She is free at last from the past
She has finally won that race
Faster than the pace
Raises her hands feels like she’s won
Never knew it had begun

Not Promotable
3800 days ‘til I’m outta here
That cubicle that makes me want to drink beer
Those suits and ties telling me what to do
All day long ‘til the day is through

This is the project that I thought of
And they can’t take that away from me
So I’m going to write it down
Sing it loud, sing it loud.

Chorus
You’re not promotable she said
You don’t have what it takes
You’re not promotable she said
With a smile on her face
And a gleam in her eye

Well I just turned and nodded yes
And asked the question what do I do next
Their will still a smile on my face
Even though those tear drops were moments away

I think I was misunderstood
I didn’t want to climb that ladder of wood
All’s I was looking for were some different tasks
That crazy bit.. can kiss my a…

The next day i walked through the door
I looked to left and glanced at the floor
I was hoping and praying
she wouldn’t come by with her
Fake little wave and her smarmy little hi

It’s my cheesy Dilbert office serenade to all those
Office workers who feel quite the same

Crazy Little Mountain Town
Let me tell you a story about a
Crazy little mountain town
It had the moon on the horizon
Had the snow upon the ground

Chorus
You say you're going to leave it
I say I don't believe it
Say you're going to make it elsewhere
Then this crazy little mountain town
Crazy little mountain town

Some say that it is too small
Everybody knows everything
There's people we don't like
Others are our best friends
But we all have something in common
It is our views of lone mountain

And the love of this mountain
Keeps us moving on

Let me tell you a story about a
Crazy little mountain town
It had the moon on the horizon
Had the snow upon the ground

So Close
Taking pictures still or moving
Telling a story without words
It's in your heart and lives in your soul
It's your destiny it’s all you know

Bars cars girls with guns
Is it art or a guy named Art
Some of it genius some of it garbage
Films no one will ever see

Chorus
So close you can taste it
Yet so far that you hate it
Something inside you says
Don’t you give up

All you want is a chance
All you need is a break
Where will it come from
where will you go
What does it taste like
you need to know

It’s the vision it’s the story
Told from deep within your mind
Life’s images capturing the moment
Something to leave behind

It's a business with no friendships
Where you need to watch your back
Just when you trust them
They will turn and stab you in the back

It’s a feeling you hold on to
Even though the times are tough
When do you move on
When do you decide that you’ve had enough

My Heart
I remember when the lights were low
You looked at me like you had to go
What did they think of the things we did
Of a love so young and innocent

They said you wouldn't stay
I ignored the signs and walked away
A failing grade in this lesson of lust
My existence was void of trust

Chorus
I gave you my heart, baby
You stole my soul
I want it back, baby
It's worth more than gold

Every time i close my eyes
I see your face
How do I put you behind me
Hope can somehow erase

It's hard to take some of the blame
I allowed it to happen over again
A wiser mind, no more secrets and lies
My heart grew back it was bigger this time
My heart grew back it was bigger this time
My heart grew back it was bigger this time
